Young people from across Newcastle have voiced their climate concerns at Newcastle City Council's Youth Climate Summit, at the Discovery Museum. Highlights included over 20 morning workshops with local experts, a locally sourced vegan lunch from chef Matei Baran, inspirational spoken poetry, empowering speeches from the Youth Council.
There were important conversations about green careers with local businesses, charities, groups and more. CAN's Annie Edwards was a panellist and workshop leader at the event and reports back on the day's activities:
"I led a workshop on climate justice followed by an afternoon discussion panel on climate-related careers. Even though these young people weren't able to vote, that didn't deter them one bit from educating themselves further on climate action! Everybody was knowledgeable, interested and engaged in protecting the planet, and many were looking towards climate-focused careers in charity sector, theatre, sports, engineering and more.
The best part was all the great conversations I had with sixth-form students who were incredibly passionate about getting involved in volunteering in the North East. What a fantastic day representing CAN!"

This annual event is a great opportunity to hear the concerns, thoughts, hopes and ideas of those who will be voting in our next elections, and engage them in local climate action.
